Our mission is to provide recovery services in a safe environment to help men heal from the pain of addiction and begin a strong foundation to sustain long-term recovery.
Support Our MissionNearly all of us know someone who has been affected by the drug issues plaguing Huntington and communities all over the country. My name is James (Jim) Hippensteel, Senior Pastor of New Hope church in Huntington, Indiana. I am also a volunteer with Kairos Prison Ministry and we spend four days, twice a year in a maximum security prison to help bring the word of God to the men who are wanting to turn their lives around.
I am currently in the process of starting a men's court-ordered recovery and restoration home in Huntington called Opened Gate. Our goal is to provide our citizens and courts a resource where men dealing with drug addiction who have committed crimes can receive the tools and training they need to resume their lives drug-free, helping them to avoid jail time or receive a reduced sentence.
I have witnessed the Holy Spirit soften the heart of a man who some would say is unchangeable. The Holy Spirit began to tear down the walls built up over time and that individual began to see what is around him with a whole new perspective.
I have talked with men who are incarcerated due to addiction, unable to get the help they need. They find it just as easy to get drugs in jail as it is out on the streets.
While spending time in this ministry, I feel a heaviness on my heart placed there by God as a calling to help the men who need to overcome the drug addictions they face.
I know redemption is possible for these men.
I have met several strong and courageous women in similar positions who are part of a women's recovery program at homes like Place of Grace and The Remnant Ministry. They are currently living a drug free life and are becoming very successful in their current lives.
As a pastor, I have discovered that we cannot, nor should we, try to take on such an endeavor as a function of the church and have taken the steps to establish a non-profit organization with a Board of Directors in place.
We need to provide a safe and loving environment for the men, in the form of a building or house.
Here are some of the ways you can help open the doors of OpenedGate:
